Multifunctional Embedded Digital Camera System

Elphel Inc.

On Thursday and Friday, 22 and 23 April, 2004, we invited the CEO and CTO of Elphel Inc to our office. Since he was in Europe to contribute to Bits & Chips' embedded conference in the Evoluon centre at Eindhoven, we could easily ask him over to our place. He's the one who made the Elphel camera which is reviewed as part of the project.

During his visit, we talked about the design process of his next camera project and we shared our thoughts about the design philosophy of open hardware and software.

He also showed some preliminary results of the contest for his camera. 9 contestors are currently working on a video streamer, for use with the standard 313 model camera. The current best streamer is able to send full frame images at full motion to one client. Later on, the software writers will try to make it multicast.

We also tried to build the latest software release for the camera and flash it over ethernet. Unfortunately, some troubles arised when doing this. Thanks to some troubleshooting with the whole project team, accompanied with Andrey and Kurt from Exys, we could solve all problems!

Here are some photos which were taken during the day:
